What is a COVID-19 test?
A COVID-19 test looks for the presence of genetic material from the COVID-19 virus within a swab or saliva sample. These tests are commonly referred to as polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests. Antigen tests look for parts of the virus.
What does the COVID-19 test involve?
The COVID-19 PCR test requires a throat or nasal swab sample to be collected and sent back to our UKAS registered laboratory for testing.
An Antigen or Antibody test require a throat or nasal swab to be taken by a clinician and anaylsed at the point of contact with results within 15 minutes.
PCR swabs are being used to rule out COVID-19 infection before travel or resuming other activities. We can issue certificates for travel within 12 to 72 hours depending on your requirements.
What should I do if my COVID-19 test is positive?
If your COVID-19 test is positive our nurses will advise through the next steps. You and your household will need to isolate.
For further guidance please visit NHS website https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/self-isolation-and-treatment/
What should I do if my COVID-19 test is negative?
A negative test means that you were not infected with COVID-19 when you took the test. If you have no symptoms, you can continue as normal. However, if you have symptoms, follow NHS guidance.
How do I book a day 2 and 8 testing package?
You will be able to book your testing package by emailing us firstname.lastname@example.org or calling us on 020 76375511. You will get a booking reference number by email which you need to fill on your passenger locator form.
Please note the test-to-release programme does not apply to passengers coming from red-listed countries. All international arrivals to England must quarantine for 10 days unless they have a job that qualifies for an exemption.
What are the new requirements for testing on day 2 and 8 after returning to England?
When you arrive in England, you must travel directly to your isolating residence and not leave until 10 days have passed.
The quarantine period is continuous from the day of arrival in England, and lasts for the next 10 full days. This is until 11:59pm on day 10. The period is necessary as it can take up to 10 days for COVID-19 symptoms to appear.
To count the days:
- the day you arrive in England is day 0
- the day after you arrive is day 1, and so on
If you’re travelling to England for less than 10 days
If you’re travelling to England for less than 10 days, you will need to quarantine for the whole of your stay.
You must still book your day 2 and day 8 travel tests even if you will no longer be in England on the dates of the tests.
You only need to take the tests if you’re still in the country on those dates.
Test to Release
You can end your quarantine early through the Test to Release scheme.
When do I book my Covid Test Travel Package?
You must book and pay for a travel test package before you travel and include the travel test package booking reference number on your passenger locator form when arriving in England.
Where do I take the Covid tests?
You can take your day 2 and day 8 Covid tests at our clinics in central London, W1. Alternatively, we can arrange a home visit with one of our medical team. We are also able to provide a postal service.
Can I stop self-isolating if I test negative?
You must complete your full 10 days of quarantine unless you opt for the Test to Release which allows you to leave quarantine after day 5 of quarantine. However, you must still take your day 8 test even if you have reduced the length of your quarantine through the Test to Release Programme.
How much does the Covid Test Travel Package cost?
£210 for postal service and from £350 for a home or clinic visit by a medical professional.
Can I still use the Day 5 Test to Release Scheme to leave quarantine early?
If you have arrived from a non ‘red list’, you can choose to leave quarantine early if you test negative for Covid on or after day 5 through the Test to Release. However, you must still take your day 8 test when traveling from an Amber List country.
Please note that the Test to Release test is separate from the Covid Test Travel Package and involves an additional Covid test. This test can only be conducted on or after your 5th full day in the country.
Can I leave my quarantine location to collect or conduct my COVID-19 test?
Yes, you can leave your quarantine only to conduct your Covid tests through the Covid Test Travel Package or Test to Release Programme as long as you continue to follow government guidelines.
What if I am travelling from a red list country?
We will not be able to offer the Day 2 & Day 8 test.
Can you explain the different test and the different days?
Day 2 test
You will need to take a COVID-19 test on or before day 2 of your quarantine period. The day of arrival in England will be treated as day zero. This first test is designed to help identify any potentially harmful variants of COVID-19 at the earliest opportunity.
If you get a positive result from your day 2 test, you must quarantine for 10 days beginning the day after the test was taken (this means until day 13). Your household will also need to quarantine until day 13.
If you get a positive result from your day 2 test, you do not need to take a test on day 8.
Day 8 test
You need to take a COVID-19 test on or after day 8, unless you got a positive result from your day 2 test.
If you get a positive test result from your day 8 test you will need to quarantine until day 19. Your household will also need to quarantine until day 19.
Do children need to take the test?
Children under 5 do not need to take the day 2 or day 8 test.
Do I still need to take my day 8 test if I test negative for COVID-19 with Test to Release?
Yes, even if you test negative through Test to Release and finish your quarantine early, you still need to take your day 8 test.
What happens if I test positive in either of the day 2 or 8 tests?
If your day 2 or 8 test results are positive then you must quarantine for an additional 10 days from the day you took the test – further advice will be provided with your test results.
If your test shows that you have a variant of coronavirus known as a ‘variant of concern’ you will get an additional call and anyone you have been in contact with will be asked to be tested.
Please see the government website for more information.
Does the Travel Test Package include genomic sequencing?
There is a requirement by the UK government to conduct genomic sequencing on all positive test results from day 2 tests. This is a very expensive process so increases the overall cost of the testing package.
Where can I find the Passenger Locator Number?
We will forward you the passenger locator number once a booking is confirmed and payment is received.
Can I leave my quarantine location to collect or conduct my COVID-19 test?
Yes, you are permitted to leave your quarantine location to collect or conduct your COVID-19 test but you are required to return to your quarantine location as soon as this is complete.
Can I have more details of what to do in quarantine?
For full details of quarantine requirements, please see the government website.
